You can hire staff in Nepal without registering a company here. An Employer of Record arrangement lets a Nepali employer hold the employment contract, run payroll and meet statutory obligations while you direct the day-to-day work. J&T Associates has been doing exactly this since 2003, from Thapathali in Kathmandu. We also run whole functions end to end as a BPO company in Nepal.
Three ways to hire staff from Nepal
Which route fits depends on how much control you want and how much of the employment burden you want to carry.
1. Employer of Record (EOR)
You choose the person (or we recruit them with you). We become their legal employer in Nepal under a Nepali employment contract, handle payroll, statutory deductions and filings, and deal with onboarding and exit. You manage their work, priorities and performance as you would any team member. This is the fastest route when you need one person or a small team and do not want to open a subsidiary. Read more on our Employer of Record page.
2. Outsourced or managed team
Instead of employing individuals, you buy a function. We recruit, train, employ and supervise the team, and you receive the output against agreed service levels. This suits repeatable work such as customer contact, back-office processing, payroll administration or record management. See outsourcing services in Nepal.
3. Your own entity in Nepal
If you intend to build a permanent operation with local management, staff and a physical presence, a registered Nepali entity eventually makes sense. It takes longer, costs more to maintain and puts the employment obligations directly on you. Many clients start with EOR and move to their own entity later, once the volume justifies it.
Roles we hire and manage in Nepal
We recruit across the functions our clients actually staff here, including:
- Customer service and contact centre agents, voice and non-voice
- Back-office processing, data entry, verification and document handling
- Accounts payable and receivable, bookkeeping support and reconciliation
- Payroll and HR administration
- Recruitment and screening support
- Administrative and executive support roles
- Drivers and facility staff, for organisations needing on-the-ground support
If a role is not on this list, ask anyway — recruiting in Nepal is what we do, and we have run Nepal’s job board, Merocareer.com, since it was built.
What we handle once you have hired
- Recruitment and screening against your requirements, including references and documentation checks
- The employment contract — issued in the name of J&T Associates as the legal employer in Nepal
- Onboarding including induction, workstation, equipment and system access
- Payroll — salary, allowances and deductions paid on Nepali payroll cycles
- Statutory compliance — the registrations, contributions and filings a Nepali employer is required to make
- Leave, benefits and records administration aligned to Nepali employment law
- Performance and conduct handling, and managed exit when a role ends
- Day-to-day supervision where you want a managed team rather than direct control
Working hours and time-zone overlap
Nepal Standard Time is UTC+5:45. That single quarter-hour offset gives Nepal an unusually useful overlap with both Asia-Pacific and European working days. If your team in Nepal works 09:00–18:00 NPT, here is what that looks like where you are:
| Your region | Offset from Nepal | Your local time when the Nepal team works 09:00–18:00 | Live overlap with your 09:00–17:00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| India (IST, UTC+5:30) | 0h15m behind Nepal | 08:45 – 17:45 | 8h00m |
| UAE and the Gulf (GST, UTC+4) | 1h45m behind Nepal | 07:15 – 16:15 | 7h15m |
| Saudi Arabia (UTC+3) | 2h45m behind Nepal | 06:15 – 15:15 | 6h15m |
| Europe, summer (CEST, UTC+2) | 3h45m behind Nepal | 05:15 – 14:15 | 5h15m |
| Europe, winter (CET, UTC+1) | 4h45m behind Nepal | 04:15 – 13:15 | 4h15m |
| United Kingdom, summer (BST, UTC+1) | 4h45m behind Nepal | 04:15 – 13:15 | 4h15m |
| United Kingdom, winter (GMT, UTC+0) | 5h45m behind Nepal | 03:15 – 12:15 | 3h15m |
| Australia, Sydney/Melbourne (AEST, UTC+10) | 4h15m ahead of Nepal | 13:15 – 22:15 | 3h45m |
| Australia, Sydney/Melbourne (AEDT, UTC+11) | 5h15m ahead of Nepal | 14:15 – 23:15 | 2h45m |
| Australia, Perth (AWST, UTC+8) | 2h15m ahead of Nepal | 11:15 – 20:15 | 5h45m |
| US East Coast (EST, UTC-5) | 10h45m behind Nepal | 22:15 – 07:15 | None on a Nepal day shift — we roster a Kathmandu night shift on your hours |
| US Central (CST, UTC-6) | 11h45m behind Nepal | 21:15 – 06:15 | None on a Nepal day shift — we roster a Kathmandu night shift on your hours |
| US Pacific (PST, UTC-8) | 13h45m behind Nepal | 19:15 – 04:15 | None on a Nepal day shift — we roster a Kathmandu night shift on your hours |
For US and UK clients we schedule the shift to your hours instead — the Nepal team works while you are awake, not while you are asleep. A standard Nepal day shift does not overlap US business hours at all, so US coverage means a genuine evening or night shift in Kathmandu, which we run as standard rather than as an exception.
English and communication
English is the language of professional and technical education in Nepal, and it is the working language across our own teams. We assess written and spoken English as part of recruitment, because the roles we place are almost always client-facing or documentation-heavy.
What it costs
We quote per role, and the quote covers the full cost of putting someone in place: recruitment, their salary, the employer-side costs a Nepali employer must carry, the workplace and equipment, and the management and compliance work we do on your behalf. The savings come from the market rate for the role rather than from cutting corners on the employment relationship — and everything is invoiced to you transparently, in a currency you choose. Ask us for a specific role and we will price it.
How to get started
- Tell us the roles and the hours. Skills you need, the coverage window, and whether you want to choose the person or have us recruit.
- We come back with a written proposal — the role, the monthly cost, the timeline and the contract structure.
- Recruit or onboard. Either we run the search, or you nominate a candidate and we onboard them onto a Nepali contract.
- Start work. Onboarding, equipment, payroll and compliance sit with us from day one.
Questions we get asked
Do I need to open a company in Nepal to hire someone there?
No. Under an Employer of Record arrangement, J&T Associates employs the person in Nepal and you direct their work. You avoid the cost and time of registering and maintaining a Nepali entity.
Who is the legal employer of my Nepal team?
J&T Associates is the employer on the contract and for all statutory purposes in Nepal. You hold the commercial relationship and the working direction.
Can I hire just one person?
Yes. A single role is a normal starting point, and many clients expand once the model is proven.
Can I interview and choose the candidate myself?
Yes. You can run the interviews and make the selection, or ask us to shortlist and recommend.
How quickly can someone start?
It depends on the role and how specific the requirements are. The employment setup itself is not the slow part — finding the right person is. We will give you a realistic timeline with the proposal rather than after you have committed.
What happens if the arrangement is not working?
Exit is handled on Nepali employment terms, with notice and any obligations settled properly. That is a core reason to run hiring in Nepal through an employer that knows the local framework rather than a contractor arrangement with no structure behind it.
