J&T Associates is a staffing agency based in Kathmandu, Nepal. We recruit permanent, contract and outsourced staff for organisations operating in Nepal — and for companies outside Nepal that need people on the ground here. We have been doing it since 2003.
Three staffing models
Permanent placement
We recruit for a role you intend to fill long-term. You employ the person directly on a Nepali contract. We handle sourcing, screening, shortlisting and reference checks, and support the offer and onboarding.
Contract and fixed-term staffing
For project work, seasonal peaks or cover, we supply people on defined-term arrangements. Useful when headcount is not justified indefinitely but the work is.
Outsourced staff (we stay the employer)
For many clients the cleanest model is that we employ the staff and you buy their output. We carry the employment relationship, payroll and statutory obligations; you direct the work. This is also how our Employer of Record service works when a client has a specific person in mind.
Who we staff
Our client list reflects where Nepali organisations concentrate their hiring, and where international companies need local presence:
- Banking and financial services — eight Nepali banks among our clients, including Nabil Bank, Laxmi Bank, NIC Asia, Everest Bank, Sunrise Bank, Mega Bank and Bank of Kathmandu
- Telecommunications — including Ncell and United Telecom
- Logistics and delivery — including DHL and Foodmandu
- Healthcare — including B&B Hospital and the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology
- Hospitality — including Hyatt Regency and Akama Hotel
- Development agencies — including JICA
- Media and consumer businesses — including Media Nine and Nepal Liquors
Roles we recruit for
- Customer service, contact centre and helpdesk staff
- Back-office processing, data entry, verification and records
- Accounts, bookkeeping and reconciliation support
- Payroll and HR administration
- Recruitment and screening support
- Administration, reception and executive support
- Drivers and facility roles — see driver outsourcing in Nepal
How our recruitment process works
- Role brief. We agree the responsibilities, the skills that matter, the working hours and the pay range before we source anything.
- Sourcing. We draw on our own candidate network and the reach of Merocareer.com, Nepal’s job board, which we run ourselves.
- Screening. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed for the specific role, with document and reference verification before an offer.
- Shortlist. You receive a shortlist with our assessment of each candidate, not a pile of CVs.
- Offer and onboarding. Depending on the model, either you employ the candidate or we do, and we handle the onboarding either way.
Employing people correctly in Nepal
Nepali employment carries obligations that a foreign employer working from a template contract usually gets wrong — the form of the contract, statutory registrations and contributions, leave entitlements, notice and termination process. If you are not set up in Nepal, the practical answer is not to try to replicate an employment contract yourself. Either we employ the person on a Nepali contract, or we tell you plainly what direct employment will require. We also handle the paperwork side of the relationship in either case.
Why use a local agency rather than hiring directly
- We are already here. Twenty-three years of recruiting in Kathmandu, with a candidate network and a job board behind it.
- Verification is local. Documents, references and employment history are checked in-country.
- Employer obligations are handled. No improvised contracts or unfiled registrations.
- You get one relationship. Recruitment, employment, payroll and management through one partner rather than several.
Working hours across time zones
Nepal Standard Time is UTC+5:45. Staff we place can be rostered to your working hours, but for clients who want a conventional Nepal day shift (09:00–18:00 NPT) this is the overlap with your own business day:
| Your region | Offset from Nepal | Your local time when the Nepal team works 09:00–18:00 | Live overlap with your 09:00–17:00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| India (IST, UTC+5:30) | 0h15m behind Nepal | 08:45 – 17:45 | 8h00m |
| UAE and the Gulf (GST, UTC+4) | 1h45m behind Nepal | 07:15 – 16:15 | 7h15m |
| Saudi Arabia (UTC+3) | 2h45m behind Nepal | 06:15 – 15:15 | 6h15m |
| Europe, summer (CEST, UTC+2) | 3h45m behind Nepal | 05:15 – 14:15 | 5h15m |
| Europe, winter (CET, UTC+1) | 4h45m behind Nepal | 04:15 – 13:15 | 4h15m |
| United Kingdom, summer (BST, UTC+1) | 4h45m behind Nepal | 04:15 – 13:15 | 4h15m |
| United Kingdom, winter (GMT, UTC+0) | 5h45m behind Nepal | 03:15 – 12:15 | 3h15m |
| Australia, Sydney/Melbourne (AEST, UTC+10) | 4h15m ahead of Nepal | 13:15 – 22:15 | 3h45m |
| Australia, Sydney/Melbourne (AEDT, UTC+11) | 5h15m ahead of Nepal | 14:15 – 23:15 | 2h45m |
| Australia, Perth (AWST, UTC+8) | 2h15m ahead of Nepal | 11:15 – 20:15 | 5h45m |
| US East Coast (EST, UTC-5) | 10h45m behind Nepal | 22:15 – 07:15 | None on a Nepal day shift — we roster a Kathmandu night shift on your hours |
| US Central (CST, UTC-6) | 11h45m behind Nepal | 21:15 – 06:15 | None on a Nepal day shift — we roster a Kathmandu night shift on your hours |
| US Pacific (PST, UTC-8) | 13h45m behind Nepal | 19:15 – 04:15 | None on a Nepal day shift — we roster a Kathmandu night shift on your hours |
For US coverage we roster an evening or night shift in Kathmandu instead, so the team works your hours rather than you reorganising around theirs.
Questions we get asked
Are you a recruitment agency or a staffing company?
Both. We recruit for clients who want to employ someone directly, and we supply staff on contract or outsourced terms where we remain the employer.
Do you recruit outside Kathmandu?
Our team is based in Kathmandu and our recruitment reach runs nationally through Merocareer.com and our candidate network.
Can you handle high-volume recruitment?
Yes — our own history includes running recruitment at volume for banking, telecom and contact-centre clients. Volume work is a process question, and we will tell you what the timeline realistically is.
Do you replace a candidate who does not work out?
Discuss this with us before you sign. Replacement terms depend on the model and the role, and we would rather agree them upfront than argue about them later.
We are not based in Nepal. Can you still staff for us?
That is a large part of what we do. If you need people in Nepal without a Nepali entity, your options are an Employer of Record arrangement or an outsourced team — we run both. Start with hiring staff from Nepal.
